Welcome to Our Music Ministry

Here at St. Viator Parish, music ministers are first and foremost ministers of hospitality. We are called to full, active, and conscious participation through as members of the Body of Christ.  Bearing special gifts and talents, we seek to 1) build bridges between people of various cultures, languages, and backgrounds; 2) offer quality, meaningful, and inspiring musical prayer for the liturgy; 3) deepen our relationship with God and each other. We are all members of a collective team working to build the Kingdom of God on earth!
St. Viator Parish welcomes you to share your gifts and talents!

Our Music Ministry Includes:

CANTORS assist in leading the assembly in song at any given Liturgy.  They offer words of welcome, lead the psalm response, acclamations, and other selections.  Cantors sing on holy days, feast days, Christmas, during Holy Week, and for weddings and funerals.  It is not a requirement to read music, however individual preparation is a necessity.

ADULT CHOIR enhances and supports the song of the assembly.  They sing from September through Pentecost, typically at the 10:30 am Mass as well as on holy days, feast days, Christmas, and during Holy Week.  Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm in the St. Joseph Center.  All singers, high school age and older, are welcome!

YOUTH MUSIC MINISTRY
All junior high through college age youth are welcome to participate in the music ministry.  They currently lead music selections once per month at the 10:30 Sunday Mass. If you are a singer or play an instrument, contact Héctor Obregón Luna, Director of Religious Education/Youth Ministry, at (773)286-4040 Ext. 28 or stviatorreled@gmail.com.

SPANISH MUSIC MINISTRY
The Spanish Music Ministry is a vibrant component of St. Viator Parish.  They provide musical leadership at the 12:30 pm Spanish Mass.  For more information, please contact Jose Rangel at 773-814-0677.

RESURRECTION CHOIR is the most informal and flexible vocal group and is comprised of volunteers who are available on a need-basis for weekday and Saturday funeral liturgies (typically 10 or 11 am or 12 or 1 pm). Please contact the music director for more details.
HANDBELL RINGERS are incorporated in the music ministry during particular seasons and on special feast days like Christmas and Easter. You do not need to know how to read music! Contact the music director for further details.

INSTRUMENTALIST of all kinds help to sustain the singing of the assembly at Liturgy. They provide elaboration and improvisation where appropriate.  If you play a woodwind, brasswind, string instrument, guitar, keyboard, or percussion, then consider offering your talents at Mass!
